Air Bud - Golden Receiver

A hush falls over the stands as the players huddle intensely on the field. The play is called, the quarterback double-pumps and the receiver runs out for the catch as the crowd audibly gasps. He's glorious to watch -- graceful, fleet-footed, focused and fluid with a big, furry, wagging tail...
That's right, it's Air Bud, the world's favorite animal athlete and canine action hero, back for another high-energy, heart-warming family adventure. AIR BUD: GOLDEN RECEIVER is the second charming installment in the escapades of Josh Framm and his four-footed best friend Buddy. This time, Josh's super-proficient pooch leads him out of family confusion and onto the football field, where Josh finds a heroic streak of his own.
Josh (Kevin Zegers) is down in the doldrums because his mom (Cynthia Stevenson) is ready to start dating again. He's in no mood for the parade of jerks and jokers who think they can take the place of his beloved Dad -- and for awhile neither is Mom. But then she meets someone for whom she feels a wild attraction -- perhaps because he's the new veterinarian in town. Soon, mom and Dr. Patrick Sullivan (Gregory Harrison) are hanging around the house giving Josh the willies. In an effort to avoid seeing them, Josh joins the football team with his gangly, girl-seeking best friend Tom (Shayn Solberg) despite having little faith in his ability to play the sport.
To make matters worse, the Fernfield Junior High football team is floundering. No one can remember the last time they won a game. In the first game of the season, the team's all-star quarterback is injured and Josh is thrown into the lineup as his replacement. Josh has a great arm but flagging confidence and disaster ensues . . . until Buddy makes a surprise entrance, exiting at the goal post. Turns out that Buddy is as skilled at going wide as he is going for a lay-up. Football's just another super-fun form of fetch for the incredible canine. Winning over the team's hearts and the coach's (Robert Costanzo's) mind, Buddy joins the Fernfield Timberwolves, outfitted with his own miniature K-9 jersey and shoulder pads, and rallies the team to the state championship finals.
But as Buddy barks himself back into the limelight, the dog is once again in danger. Two Russian Circus wranglers, Natalya (Nora Dunn) and Popov (Perry Anzilotti) are hot on his trail, not to mention his tail, hoping to nab him as their star attraction. Now with Buddy abducted, mom in love and the football team one win away from victory, it will take a little canine cleverness and a giant leap of faith on the part of Josh to pull them all through.
