It's summertime in Fernfield, but thirteen-year-old Andrea Framm is less than thrilled to be out of school. Her best friend Tammy is moving to California, and Connor, the new boy who just moved in next door, can't quite fill her shoes.

While babysitting to raise money for a trip to visit Tammy, Andrea has a brainstorm - Andrea and Buddy's Pet Sitting Service! All goes well until the dogs get out and wreak havoc on the Fernfield farmer's market. Andrea's plans - and her savings - are down the tubes!

Just when everything looks hopeless, Connor suggests Andrea join his beach volleyball team. First place in the league championship is a trip to California, and Andrea jumps at the opportunity. With a little help from all-star athlete Buddy, Andrea is back in action… that is until Buddy gets dognapped by a pair of bumbling crooks who think his agile paws will help them make off with a priceless gem locked in the Fernfield Museum.
