Julie Clayton (MADCHEN AMICK) and Don Powell (RICHARD
JOSEPH PAUL) are game wardens living in a remote are of the Rocky Mountains.
They are deeply in love and have carved out a comfortable niche for themselves,
living as they always wanted to in the peaceful surrounding of the Rockies.
But their quiet world is completely shattered in a matter
of hours when they happen across the carcasses of many bears that are the
victims of merciless poachers.
Federal agents are called the Rockies and arrive by
helicopter. Julie and Don’s assistance is required to guide them to the
location of the bear kill. But when they land at the scene they soon realize
that they have been drawn into a battle neither one is equipped to handle.
The poacher, known only as Hanaghan (ADRIAN PASDAR) is
equally as determined to stand his ground and defend his sinister livelihood,
as they are to protect the bears. In the midst of an ambush all the Federal
Agents are slaughtered and Don is cruelly murdered before Julie’s eyes and then
she herself is shot and left for dead.
Julie is airlifted by helicopter to the hospital and
against all medical odds, she survives the shooting. Julie is the only person
who can identify Hanaghan, but she refuses to cooperate with the FBI whom she
believes lead her and Don into a lethal situation. Depressed and suicidal, she
attempts to escape the hospital but is intercepted by Rollins (GRAHAM GREENE),
a charismatic yet burnt-out cop who has voluntarily checked in for therapy.
Rollins and Julie begin to form a friendship and he is drawn into protecting
her from Hanaghan, who now knows that Julie survived the shooting and can
identify him.
Julie’s nightmare continues while Hanaghan torments her
with phone calls threating to “hunt” her down. Having nowhere safe to go, she
seeks shelter in Rollins’ home. Anticipating that Hanaghan will come after
Julie, the FBI keeps Rollins’ house under surveillance. Their theory is proved
right when Hanaghan attacks the house one night. Julie and Rollins defend
themselves during a fierce gunfight but as the police descend on the scene,
Hanaghan shoots Rollins and disappears. Rollins died in Julies’ arms.
Having nothing left to lose, Julie transforms herself
from the hunted into the hunter and returns to the Rockies- the one place she
knows Hanaghan will be. A battle of raw skill and determination ensues between
Hanaghan and Julie - and only the most ruthless hunter will survive.
