Hoods

In the spirit of Get Shorty and Grosse Pointe Blank, HOODS features Joe Mantegna (Forget Paris, Baby's Day Out) as Angelo Morelli, the disillusioned son of an aging gangster chieftain (Seymore Cassel). In retaliation for the fire-bombing of his warehouse. Angelo's father orders Angelo to kill rival crime family member Carmine DellRosa. Angelo pleads with his father to put an end to the violence, but the bitter, half senile old man insists that Carmine be killed, even though he can't quite remember just who Carmine is.

Angelo's reluctant gangster friends are all getting a bit old for this sort of thing, and none of them - including Angelo's fiery best friend, Rudy (Kevin Pollak Grumpy Old Men) - know who Carmine is. Worse yet, they can't seem to find anyone willing to pull the trigger. Unable to find a hitman, Angelo pressures his unpredictable ex-girlfriend, Mary Flynn (Jennifer Tilly Liar Liar), to help him find Mary's quirky husband, Charlie (Joe Pantoliano Bound, The Fugitive), who needs money desperately and will probably perform the hit. Mary reveals that Charlie has been committed to a mental asylum because of his lack of feelings and conscience.

Angelo and gang clumsily organize Charlie's escape from the mental hospital, and proceed to kidnap Carmine (Vincent Barry, Free Willy II), who, as it turns out, is the nine-year-old son of the DellaRosa crime family. Angelo can handle the toughest guys on the streets, but he's out of his league with this nine-year-old kid. His conscience shaken, Angelo reaches the fateful moment where he must choose between obedience to his father and his desire to end the senseless violence which might claim Carmine's life.
